Experience Manhattan's High Society

Gossip Girl sold a version of Manhattan that fans still want to walk through: Fifth Avenue in the morning, Central Park in the afternoon, hotel lobbies at night. The good news is that almost all of it is real and open to visitors.

The Upper East Side

This is the heart of the show. The Met Steps at Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street, the Waldorf building at 1136 Fifth Avenue and the school steps at the Museum of the City of New York sit within a walkable stretch of the same avenue.

Central Park

Bethesda Terrace, the Bow Bridge and the Conservatory Water appear throughout the six seasons and are minutes apart inside the park. It is the most scenic section of any Gossip Girl route and the best light for photographs.

The hotels

The Lotte New York Palace on Madison Avenue and the Empire Hotel beside Lincoln Center are the two addresses the series turned into characters. Both are working hotels; both welcome a photograph from the entrance.

Where the show got the tone right

What the series captured better than the plot points was the choreography of the city: who waits where, which staircase is a stage, how a lobby works as a meeting room. Standing in those spaces is the part guests say surprised them most.

Planning a day

Start in Midtown, move north through Central Park and end on the Upper East Side. That order keeps the walking short and finishes on the most photogenic block of Fifth Avenue.
